1st of all; this is an idiot, and the person filming is too. Never prop your gun on a tire loaded or unloaded. Then climb all over the ATV . The laziness of securing the gun safely away , even if it’s lying flat on the ground would be better option than what he’s doing No one gets injured and no damage to gun and scope if properly put away

I say this without any bravado or boast, but as an average sized guy I have zero difficulty loading a deer into the back of a truck all by myself. If it’s a heavy buck that you can’t just lift, then just reach down and grab the antlers and bring the head and shoulders onto the tailgate, and then stand and use your legs to pull the rest on up.

That tailgate is 5 foot off the ground or that man is only 5 foot tall .🤦‍♂️

Way too complicated...you were on the right track to begin with. Get back on top of the four-wheeler and instead of pulling back to front pull the deer from the side and simply step off the other side while pulling.

In Ohio you have to field dress a deer where you find it.

I always just get my wife to load the deer....I mean if she is able to field dress one and drag it out then she can sure throw it in the back of my truck.

I've got one. Had it several years. They work great!

Just pick the deer up and put it in your truck if your so week that you can’t load a deer up and put in your truck stay home or call your sister

There is a much easier way than that.

ATV ramps work great, preferably ones with little holes not ladder type

A piece of plywood as a ramp would make it a lot easier. Fortunately, my grandson is in top condition to help. Yes, field dressing saves a lot of weight. I was taught to field dress just after taking the game.

Plywood; one person, no lifting, loaded in less than 1 minute. If you tailgate is too high above ground level; 2 pieces of plywood connected with hinges...

I've never drug a deer out of the woods with the guts in it. I also tell whoever I hunt with that I don't drag anything out of the woods with the guts in it so don't get hurt while we're out hunting or you ain't gonna make it. Lol

Would it hurt to drop the tailgate down to come up at a 45?

What's like a great way to lift a heavy load without breaking your back. I imagine there's several ways of doing it, but this is definitely an excellent way. And all you need is a few straps which most people with trucks usually have anyway.

...or you could just pick it up with your hands and put it into the bed of the pickup. If you can't do that with that small deer then you need to go to the gym or do some home workouts in the off season !!!

Field dressing it first would be a good start. When he put that strap across the bed, I thought he was goin to put a come-along on it & crank it on up in there. Nope.

I wonder if you could use a piece of 1/4 “ plywood about 20” wide x 4’ long to lever it up once you get to the furthest point ?

Field dress and pick it up

Squat down, grab front legs in left hand, grab rear legs in right hand, stand up and place deer on tail gate. (Optional steps) Lean on the tailgate and cry until you can finally stand up straight. Then complain to your wife about your mystery back pain for a week.

Great info and video. But 1st before you drag a deer by yourself you should field dress it. Makes dragging AND loading a whole lot easier. You drag a 200lb + buck or even a 130lb doe not field dressed 300 yards to your vehicle, then you won't have the energy or strength left to even try this method if doing by yourself. Especially if you have to drag up a steep hill. But good info and idea thanks

I’m in my early 30s, not an athlete by any means, best deadlift was 275 lbs, and I hunt northern Alberta. Every 3 year old+ buck I’ve ever weighed has been 270-300 lbs live weight. Only way I can load one solo is with a 6’ board I lean against the tailgate and gutting the deer first, but even then it’s a huge effort.
